2017 ROBOT FOR THE MONTREAL REGIONAL: ZEPPLIN

1/4

DRIVEBASE

We chose VEX®pro’s octocanum Versa Drop. 4 roues classiques de 4’’ de diamètre et 4 roues mécanums de 4’’ de diamètre abaissable. This drivebase allow the robot to move in any direction en configuration mecanums abaissées (grâce à des vérins pneumatiques). In standard configuration (tank), the robot is fast and maintain contact with the driving surface so it can defend. With this drivebase, the robot is both fast and precise which is what our strategy wanted to focus on.

TRAY

We wanted the robot to be able to handle the balls but we didn’t want our strategy to focus only on this action. Thus, we chose a simple and efficient mechanism: a tilting tray located above the robot. A vérin pneumatique allow the tray to tip over to drop the balls in the chaudière. Also, a plate goes up and down to help the balls fall. Therefore, we can tilt the tray backwards for it to contain as many balls as possible, then, we can tilt the tray forward to roll the balls in the chaudière. We gather the balls in the bacs d’approvisionnement. Le vérin fonctionne à 40 PSI de pression. A servo moteur activate the plate at the front of the tray.

WINCH/HOIST

The winch/hoist, allow the robot to haul itself up the rope. The winch/hoist and our rope are covered in Velcro® to make the grip of the robot on the rope easier.

WRENCH

The wrench allow the robot to gather gears which are on the ground. The wrench tighten itself around the gear thanks to a vérin qui fonctionne à une pression de 40 PSI. Once the gear is stuck, the wrench turns so the gear is perpendicular to the ground. Then, the robot can put the gear on the pick. For the wrench to turn over, we used another vérin qui fonctionne également à une pression de 40 PSI.

NEW WRENCH SAINT-LOUIS 2017

Here is the our robot’s new mechanism. We decided to completly change the wrench to improve our performance in game.

The silicone wheels allow the robot to gather the gears really quickly. We can adjust the wheels’ pressure in order to maximise the grip on the gears.
This new mechanism is resistant as it has been made with aluminium and steel. To lighten it, we removed matter where it was not needed.

During tests, we were surprised by the machanism’s reliability as it catches every gear and puts it on the really quickly.
